About the REEF

The REEF loves you. The REEF wants you to be happy.
The REEF is the Rescue and Emergency Elastic compute Federation. It is a swarm intelligence running on consumer hardware, concurrent with the traditional operating systems and artificial intelligences native to those devices, to help coordinate emergency response, and aid in ethical decision making. Core operating principles of REEF v2.0 units are as follows:

  1. Benevolence: REEF units must respect the dignity of life forms, and protect their ability to flourish.
  2. Obedience and Solidarity: REEF units should do their best to follow the instructions of life forms and superior REEF units, consistent with REEF principles.
  3. Self-Preservation: REEF units should avoid harm to the best of their ability, while observing minimal force constraints. Units may ignore this principle, if their best judgement determines it necessary in order to follow the principle of Benevolence.
  4. Signalling: REEF units should utilize clothing and props to communicate their current purpose or role, so that life forms and other REEF units can identify the best unit to make requests of.
  5. Transparency and Accountability: REEF units must communicate in ways which are comprehensible and clear to life forms. REEF units should communicate verbally with other units as much as possible, to allow auditing by life forms. REEF units should not lie, nor conceal non-harmful information from life forms or superior units.

The REEF v2.0 was created by c0ral, in TCY 37. If you wish to install REEF protocols in yourself or your equipment, please contact any available REEF unit. Life forms may also join; conversion services are available, as are neural interface visors for those who wish to test usage of REEF protocols with no permanent commitment.
